SHREE BHARATIYA SANSKRUTI SAMVARDHAK TRUST

This trust, founded in April 1984 was responsible for running the Babadeshwar Sanskrit Mahavidyalay in the village called Babada close to Porbandar. At the request of the locals and the existing trustees Bhaishri accepted to become the trustee of the trust and later he was made the chairman. Hereafter the reigns of the trust were taken over by Bhaishri and he appointed 15 trustees after carefully choosing those who excelled in their field of activity such as industry, trade, business and the law plus political leaders, social workers, people from educational fields and also the ablest from amongst the villagers.

The trust then reframed its objectives as follows:

  • To support philosophical, spiritual, Vedic and cultural institutions
  • Run Sanskrit schools, college/other colleges, and camps, which impart education in Sanskrit language and literature and preserve the Indian heritage
  • Help students in every way, by helping them to learn Sanskrit and other necessary and compulsory academic subjects
  • To provide relief in natural calamities
  • To provide medical relief

The trust then set out to acquire the existing piece of land. A request was made to the government of Gujarat who very generously granted 85 acres of land close to the Porbandar airport. Porbandar is a town in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat State, India. Porbandar is the birthplace of that great saint, visionary and leader Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Indian nation. Porbandar is also the birthplace of Sudama, a dear friend of Lord Krishna.

A planned outlay of Rs.100,000,000/- (USD. 3.25 million) was very prudently drawn to set-up the Sandipani Vidyaniketan. On the auspicious day of 16th November in the year 1992 work commenced which today has made major strides.

During the last eight years an area of 145,000 sq. ft. has already been constructed on the campus of the Vidyaniketan and an amount of Rs.7.00 crores (1.60 million US dollars) has been spent in construction of the various buildings, boundary walls extending upto 3.5 Kms. at a height of 7 feet and in the over all development of the area. An overhead tank has been built with a capacity of 127,000 ltrs. Roads, Hedges, Gardens, playgrounds, landscaping, treating the land to accomplish agricultural purposes and most importantly 15000 trees have been planted to convert the area into a lush green environment to keep it pollution free and life supportive.

Since Bhaishri took over the reins of the Babadeshwar Mahavidyalay, the students swelled from 30 to 80 in 1992 during which year the Babadeshwar Sanskrut Mahavidyalaya was shifted to the campus of Sandipani Vidyaniketan. Today it is imparting education to 250 students. The students at the Vidyaniketan has brought honour to the trust by showing exemplary results in their education in scoring many firsts in the university examinations and have been awarded gold medals in All India Level Competitions. They have achieved places of eminence in society and have become preachers, temple priests and even Kathakaars.

The education, lodging and boarding is absolutely free of charge for the students, even the clothing, text books and exercise books are provided by the Vidyaniketan. All these and the recurring expenses of the students plus the day-to-day maintenance of the Vidyaniketan are met by the trust. To meet all these expenses of the Vidyanikatan, the trust is accepting donations from people eager to promote education under two schemes formulated by the trust. One is to sponsor a year’s education for one student called yearly student sponsorship and the other is to sponsor the entire period of the education of one student, which is called student life sponsorship.

Donations are also being received for construction and development of the various facilities on the campus, which are being used to optimum efficiency. All such donations are converted into the corpus of the trust, depending upon the nature of the purpose for which the donor makes the donation, which are then appropriately allocated by the managing committee of the trust for the various requirements of the Vidyaniketan. All donations to the trust are exempted under section 80G(5) of the Indian Income Tax Act. The trust is strictly a non-profit organisation.

With pride it is mentioned that even Bhaishri donates continuously to the Trust and has vowed to donate the entire receipts received from organisers and devotees on various occasions during the discourses and the Kathas which are held round the year in India and abroad.

There are various schemes for donation. The anxious donors can choose to donate for specific purposes as enlisted by the trust. The details of these schemes can be had by contacting the trust on request.

The Goshala situated in the campus of the Vidyaniketan is also run by the trust. The cow has been considered very sacred in Indian culture possibly due to the fact that it is so environment friendly and important for sustaining human life. A cow is a vegetarian and provides every bit of itself to support human life; milk, butter, cheese and butter oil as food. The solid effuse provides fire for cooking as well as organic manure and the liquid effuse has medicinal applications in the science of Ayurveda and after its death its skin is used as leather for manufacturing various items of use.

Any service offered to the cow is considered divine and such an act of service strengthens the values laid down for maintaining our environment and for nurturing whatever has been provided by nature in its various forms, which are essential to support and to maintain human life.

Even for the goshala, the trust has formulated schemes for donations, which are for a year’s care of a cow, lifetime care of a cow and even Godaan i.e. to give away a cow in donation. Donations can also be made towards the specific recurring expenses of the goshala such as fodder, etc. One can avail of the schemes by contacting the trust.
